The Elements of Disney Theming: Introduction

Coming soon to WDW Central is a series titled “The Elements of Disney Theming”, a spinoff of the series “Why Disney World is so Great”. The goal of this fresh new series is to give everyone a new appreciation for the Walt Disney World attractions. Theming is one of the key factors that sets Disney apart, it’s a trademark that gives all the attractions their distinct quality.

Walt Disney envisioned the Parks as a “show” – and anything the guests can see is thought of as the “stage”. In this series we’re going to take a look at what makes the “show” complete – we’ll look at all the detailed elements that come together for each attraction, making the show a believable presentation.

And so the tour begins. We’re going to look at lots of different elements of Disney theming that work together to make the show possible – so stay tuned! The first post will be here in a day or so.

Feedback is welcome, as always. We’d love to hear your thoughts! Whether you hate this series or love it, we want you to comment on every post (but especially this one so we know how we’re starting off) – so don’t be shy, leave a comment now!

New Features: Rating Posts and Comments

WordPress recently released a feature called Ratings. Gee, I wonder what brilliant person came up with that one! Anyways, I decided to enable then for this blog.

As of now, you can rate posts & rate comments. It’s no secret that this blog is in need of some user interaction. Plenty of readers, yes, but not many comments. Maybe you’re too busy – I understand. That’s why I enabled this tool. It’s not hard clicking on a star or a thumbs up button, is it?

Ratings for posts are as you guessed, stars. You can rate the post on a scale of 1 to 5, one being the worst. Please be completely honest in your ratings. If the post was the lamest thing ever, tell me!

Ratings for comments are a bit different. Under each comment is a thumbs up or a thumbs down. No stars. Rate the comment on quality – not if you like the user’s blog. If the comment helps, gives an opinion, or states something useful – give it a thumbs up! If it looks like spam, or simply says “cool” – give it a thumbs down. The number of thumbs up/down will be shown as well.

What do you think? This post is a perfect one to test the rating system. Like the rating system? Give this post high stars! Also feel free to comment and share your opinion that way. Ratings for comments aren’t to “judge” you, simply to build a user community based on the content presented.

WDW Central Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Just wanted to announce to all of you awesome loyal readers that today, March 13, 2009, marks the one-year anniversary of WDW Central! I know this blog has grown, and it’s all thanks to you, the wonderful audience. So I would like to take this time to thank each and every one of you for sharing your thoughts, and reading along.

This blog has had it’s ups and it’s downs (possibly more downs, though) – and taking into account all the switches I made (Blogger to WP about ten times), I’m very lucky to get about 100 viewers every day.

The only request I have for you this second year: please comment more. I know people are visiting, but if every reader is willing to comment, it helps the WDW Central community grow and develop into something truly magical. Thanks again for your readership – and have an amazing rest of your night!

First of all, let me apologize for the lack of posts these few weeks. It’s been extremely busy, blah blah blah, [insert more lame excuses], blah…you get the idea. With that out of the way, let’s get to the real “news”.

I’m very happy to announce that you can now subscribe to the WDW Central RSS feed through E-mail! I have set up a Feedburner account for WDW Central – so if you are inclined to, feel free to click here (or at any other time – the link has been updated in the sidebar as well) to subscribe.

This is simply another way to receive the latest WDW Central news, articles, tips, and updates. Once you click the link above, you will get a conformation email from “feed@wdwcentral.com” – inside there will be a conformation link, and you’ll start receiving updates right away.

NOTE: If you do not receive a conformation email, be sure to check your spam folder, as some computer generated emails will be marked as “Spam”.

Planning Central Launches on WDW Central

Hello folks! This is just a short update post to inform you that Planning Central has launched right here on WDW Central! Right now, it only has information on Disney’s Fastpass, Photopass, and Extra Magic Hours. I know it will continue to grow and expand, as this site moves forward.

Of course, it’s mainly for people who are new to the Walt Disney World experience, but I’m sure other people can learn something as well. I gathered this information from many different and reliable sources, so hopefully it’s extremely accurate.

If you have any information you would like to contribute (adding to content already here, or writing on a new planning subject), feel free to contact me. Thank you for supporting and visiting WDW Central – have a magical day!

“In the Spotlight” Becomes “In Depth”

In 2009, my main goal (regarding the internet world, that is) was to move this blog forward. A major way to do this is to get better content, and post it more frequently. We’ve managed to pull the second one off for a few days so far, but I was still looking for a way to improve the content.

I eventually came to the conclusion to change the format of a series here, called “In the Spotlight”, that outlined basic facts about rides and attractions. “In the Spotlight” is now being called “In Depth”, where I’m take the same basic idea, but just improving on it. “In Depth” posts will feature a ride or attraction, but instead of having just a few interesting facts, there’s going to be a lot more information there – think of a way more detailed version of ITS.

Hopefully it will be a bit more helpful and interesting to everyone! Sure, it means I’ll have to actually do some more research, but it’s worth it. So now, let me know what you guys think – do you like the new idea, or would you rather keep the basic “ITS” posts?

Where are those Comments?!

Hey guys, I am just posting to make sure at least someone is still here reading WDW Central!  You’re starting to scare me!  Believe me, I want to hear what you’re thinking, even if it’s bad.  So I’m dedicating this post for all those thoughts you have on the site.  Let it all out.  I want EVERYONE reading this blog – even if it’s your first time – to leave a comment here and give me your feedback.  I can’t improve the site if I don’t know what people don’t like about it!

I know this is a huge step, but I am doing it to make improvements on the blog.  If there’s a series you don’t like/want, tell us!  Once again, I’m asking that EVERYONE reading this blog give your thoughts and feedback on this post here.  If no one comments, then I’ll feel really embarrassed, and probably delete the post.  Just double checking to make sure there’s still someone interested…your comment will be greatly appreciated! Be harsh. Tell me what you really think.
