Thanks Roy, You Kept the Legacy of Magic Alive

Roy E. Disney, the nephew of Walt Disney, passed away today – Wednesday, December 16, 2009.

While he wasn’t a necessary part for the beginning of the Disney Company or the theme parks, he was very involved later on, doing everything in his power to keep the Disney Company alive, and the legacy of magic from dying. Roy was the one that had the ideas and made them a reality – the ideas that got the Disney Company out of a financial and creative slump.

He got new management, forced out Michael Eisner, and cleaned things up. Now, whether you think those were the right decisions or not isn’t important. What’s important is that he took a stand to do what he thought would preserve a company – and it did – even more than he probably imagined. If he had given up, there might not have been such a successful brand. He really kept the ball rolling and kept the legacy of Disney magic alive.

Thanks Roy, for keeping the ideals, principles, and forward thinking ahead of the money and fame. You will be missed.
